Major Systems Upgrade forced by Continued Fast Paced Growth

Partner makes major move to upgrade Hardware and Systems Software

ELMA, NY - 05/09/01 -- A manufacturer of Make-to Order Quality Salon Seating and Cabinetry, was experiencing sustained high growth. Additional manufacturing capacity could be added with the purchase of a plan over a half mile away. However, the new remote site would need high speed access to their Pro:Man ERP system. While the plant addition would support their growth, it presented many challenges to their existing information System infrastructure.

The primary challenges:

  1. A desire to minimize new hardware investment. They have a large investment in legacy hardware; printer, older PC's, and dumb terminals.
  2. Pro:Man software provides functionality, excellent access to data, and easy-to-use flexibility. Our Client wished to maintain and expand on their Pro:Man software functionality.
  3. The older version of the database/operating system didn't easily support distributed environments. Our Client wanted to expand into a new infrastructure that would enable efficient development of their Pro:Man business application for a globally interconnected world.

This Client worked with Pro:Man Group to move their application software to a state-of-the-art WIN2K Server based network. This would allow the addition of an ISDN Router/Switch based phone connection to the second facility. Four major conversion highpoints needed to be addressed:

  1. Move the client post-relational database from PICK's AP PRO to Raining Data's state -of-the-art D3.
  2. Move the client Operating System from AP PRO to state-of-the-art WIN2K Server.
  3. Move Pro:Man software application to the new D3 database and windows 2000 server environment.
  4. Do all of the above a weekend in order to have the least impact on production.

Pro:Man Group accomplished all of the above with minimal impacts on the production, manufacturing, or accounting processes. Data and Systems were prepared on a Thursday and Friday. Cutover to live databases was accomplished on a Saturday and This manufacturer  was up and running at both plants the following Monday.

Mission Accomplished.
